History:
David Rubin, OD caught this great image with his BioVID, and recounted this interesting case:
--
The story here is that an elderly woman went out early one morning to pick some fresh oranges off her tree for breakfast for herself and he husband. Something fell out of the tree into her eye. Neither she nor her husband could get it out. It was really killing her. Her husband did not want to alarm her so he told her he could see the leg of an ant in her eye. As you can see there was more than just a leg. By the way, this is not your everyday ant. This is a fire ant. It had died but not before biting in. At first I thought it was just laying at the lower lid and would easily come out by retracting the lower lid and swabbing it out. This did not work. The jaws were embedded in the conjunctiva. I had to remove it with forceps being careful not to sqeeze its head. I did not want to milk out any more of the formalyn red ant secrete when they bite.

Dr. Rubin went on to treat this unusual situation. How would you guess he managed it?
