Answer:

This patient was diagnosed with Granular Corneal Dystrophy. Typically presenting in the first decade of life, it is autosomal dominant, with lesions such as those shown here, and distinct clear areas between lesions. Dr. Knapp stated, 'When I first looked at the corneas under the slit lamp, I thought the patient had been eating crackers and gotten crumbs under the lens... I was suprised to see them without the contact lenses in.' With new contact lenses this pt did very well on a 2 week replacement regmien, and all contact lens comfort problems were resolved.
