History / Objective Data

(This DGR case requires a VBScript-compatible browser to work optimally. You should either be using Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape equipped with the NCompass ScriptActive plug-in. The answer can be viewed via straight HTML, as well... see the link at the end of the case history.)

This case was donated by Mark Dunbar, OD of Bascom Palmer. It was part of a 1997 SECO Computerized Self-Assessment Test. Thanks, Dr. Dunbar!!!

A 19 y/o black male presented for a routine eye exam with complaints of difficulty reading and seeing the board in his college classroom.

No significant personal or family history of eye or systemic disease was reported.

Best corrected vision was 20/60 in both eyes.

Pupils were normal as was the anterior chamber and cornea upon biomicroscopy. Motilities were normal and the patient's IOP was 16 mmHg OU.

Dilated fundus examination showed slight irregularities to the macular areas of both eyes. A fluorescein angiography was performed. Note the photo seen here. The angiography for the other eye was almost identical in appearance.

What is this condition?
