Case #51

Wooo! What a weird case. Take a look at the picture to your left and imagine what one of our ophthalmologists must have thought when a fourteen year old white male walked in the office and reported that he just had a motorcycle tire blow up in his face as he was trying to fill it. Both eyes had the appearance you see here.

His vision was about 20/60 in each eye and the particulate matter you see was not mobile. It looked as though a thousand little golden foreign bodies were present. The patient did not report much pain.

Anterior chamber was clear. The adnexa was clear. Motilities were normal. IOP was checked later in the visit and was normal. I'll also tell you that no retinal damage was found on a follow-up visit.

What's going on here, and how was it managed? Hint... I don't really expect you to get this one, as things get really surprising.

Don't hesistate to bring this case up for discussion... either on our Internet mailing list or our ocular disease forum. See the URL at the bottom of this screen, or contact me, Walt Mayo, OD, at waltmayo@sccoast.net.
