Case #37

This is a case from Mark Dunbar, OD of Bascom Palmer in Florida. He's an excellent speaker and has worked with me in the past on a couple of outstanding self-assessment tests administerd at SECO.

A 20 y/o male presents to your office with a five week history of a unilateral red eye. He complains of itching and that his eyes are matted shut in the morning. He also reports a watery, mucoid dischare which is confirmed in your exam. He denies any recent URI's and states the last one he had was about two to three months ago. In his clinical exam you note the presence of a preauricular node, a mild keratitis, and some scattered subepithelial infiltrates that seem to be more prominent in the superior aspect of the cornea. A photo of the clinical findings seen in the lower fornix is available for your review.

What is this condition, and how should it be treated?
