History / Objective Data

DGR #114

A four y/o white male was brought into the clinic by his mother. She reported that the boy had suffered from constant tearing of the right eye from birth, with the skin nasal and inferior to the eye being red and irritated a good portion of the time. She denied that the discharge was purulent or otherwise abnormal. They seemed to be 'normal tears' according to the mother. No other significant ocular history was noted. The left eye had never suffered the same problem. The child had received no ocular evaluation other than that given by the family's pediatrician. No significant systemic or family medical history was cited.

The child scored 20/30 acuity OD, OS, OU with no correction. Refractive error was found to be minimal, with slight hyperopia OU. Anterior segment biomicroscopy was normal. Dilated retinal examination was normal. Pupils and EOM evaluation showed no abnormality either. The external photo of the right eye is shown in the picture here.

What is this condition and how should it be managed?
